Checking the Ford instructions it states lubricate the outer diameter of the seal with a dry lubricant such as powdered graphite. This will prevent the seal from sticking to the wall of the reservoir motor cavity in the plastic reservoir. Make sure the seal seats against the bottom of the motor cavity in the reservoir otherwise it will leak.
